Well, it’s been a really long road, but all the formatting and cover art business for A Shadowed Spirit is finally coming to an end. Normally it wouldn’t have taken so long, but along with getting A Shadowed Spirit ready for publication, we’ve also been reformatting The Thirteenth Tower due to changing printers. We’ve also made some adjustments to the back portion of the cover to help keep it a bit closer to A Shadowed Spirit. It literally created twice as much work, and I’ve been in a “I just need to get this done” haze for the past two months.

Anyway, did I say it’s almost done? Please excuse me while I go laugh/cry hysterically in the corner while petting my hair as I recover from it all. As hard as writing can be sometimes, compared to publishing, writing is like rocketing yourself out of a cannon while coated in baby oil. And on that image…

So, where did January go? It feels like I blinked, and then suddenly it’s February. Add in the fact that the Swedish weather lately has been behaving more like April, I’m left feeling slightly perplexed as to what time of year it actually is.

Lots of things on the proverbial burners, some of which I already discussed in my last blog post, but also new things. Like me actually enjoying spending time on social media. Which, if you know me, is pretty much a revelation, kind of like me no longer dreading marketing.

Well, it’s a new year, and with a new year always comes the refreshed optimism of new possibilities. Resolutions are made. Goals are set. I don’t make resolutions, but I do set goals for myself, which are always related to writing and publishing.

In fact, I don’t think I ever set yearly goals for myself until I started writing. Or maybe I just never cared about my previous goals enough to remember them. My goals aren’t exactly massive ones—it’s usually surrounding finishing a certain manuscript or publishing a certain book. So far, I’ve achieved every yearly goal I’ve set for myself (I think. I really need to start writing them down…), which is cool in its own right, even if they are modest. But this year… well, let’s just say it’s my most ambitious yet.

Things have been a little crazy for me lately, though it’s pretty much my own fault. I’ve given myself way too much to do. I’ve put off writing a blog post for the past couple of weeks because each time I think of it, it’s like I revert back to being a 10-year old, stomping my foot and complaining that I don’t want to.

The truth of the matter is that when I feel like this, on the edge of burn-out, it’s hard to create new writing–creative or otherwise. It’s also hard for me to write about something as if I didn’t have all these clouds looming overhead, like I’m being insincere. Honestly, though, I think I just need to vent my brain on occasion–acknowledge that big hairy monster in the closet so that I can move beyond it. That’s the hope, anyway. Lucky for you, you get to be here to witness the mess. You’re welcome.

ForgottenWeb_FC_BNGThe Forgotten Web is out and available for Kindle! And, for the moment, only for Kindle. I decided to take the plunge and give the Kindle Select thingie a go. I’m not thrilled about it, because they require exclusivity, but they promise other things like better visibility and availability in Kindle Unlimited, which is their book subscription program.

Given that the biggest problem I’m facing right now is that virtually no one knows I exist, I figure better visibility could be a good thing. And it’s only for a minimum of three months. If I decide I don’t like it, I’ll pull it out make the book available everywhere. But I wanted to try it and see what happens.

They say that if you want to sell books (or anything, for that matter) then you need to know your target audience. You need to go where your audience is, and let them know that you have something they want/need. It seems like pretty basic marketing stuff. You know, not rocket science.

And yet, for me, it is rocket science. It’s strap-me-to-a-dentist-chair-with-nails-on-a-chalkboard-while-shooting-me-off-into-space, rocket science. Part of it has to do with the fact that sales just isn’t my thing. If it were my job, a day at the office would look something like this:
